• In the horror/thriller movie Scream there are constant masks placed around different scenes and settings throughout, this is done to give a constant indication of fear for the audience. The masks help symbolize and foreshadow an unfortunate event to occur in the movie as it is the only form of identification of the killer.

• Through the mise en scene, there is also the symbolism of death created by the use of a knife as a prop. The knife is a conventional use of iconography for a killer in many horror movies.
